There is a fun little convenience store/deli across the parking lot, by the church, called the Honolua store. I'm not sure if they have to have a minimum number of kids to be open, but it's worth checking on. I do think they have a kids club for kid activities. you are "right on the pool" or "right on the golf course", "right on the back side of the garden", etc. so if you want to be "right on the beach", this is not it. The beach at the hotel is a bit of a walk and when we went, it was bad for snorkeling. Although, there is a small playground by the pool if your kids are that age. the pool is more of an adult-feel pool. (I don't think the trade winds were blowing.) You also have to be on a higher floor to see over the trees. it was misty/murky/foggy/smoggy/whatever the 3 days we were there. we did the club level ocean view one time and never saw the ocean. don't worry about missing out on the ocean view. the one bedroom suites would be very nice. Nespresso in your room if you're a coffee drinker. I've stayed at the Ritz 3 times, each in different rooms, and love snorkeling in Naplil Bay. Probably would have to take a shuttle to Kapalua beach to get sufficiently calm conditions.Īny opinions? I searched the forums and never found anyone who was comparing these two options.Īnswer: I might be able to help. Often 5* hotels in the US are disappointing relative to 5* hotels elsewhere in the world. It would be $1200 more than the NKBR for the 5 nights (including the resort fee/car parking), but we would have access to the club food and drinks. It is far cheaper than most Ritz Carltons in the US. We would stay in club level in a one-bedroom suite though that would be resort view. There seem to be a lot of rules surrounding children which makes me worry it will not be relaxed and I will get told off by people. It may feel more Hawaiian and has free activities for the kids. We can get an oceanfront one-bedroom suite. I have narrowed down our resort choices to the Ritz and the Napili Kai. During that time our plan is to take a day-trip to Lanai, go to some beaches, do a luau and do some snorkeling from shore. We will spend 5 nights at the Fairmont in South Maui, and then 5 nights on the West side of Maui. The pool needs to be such that my children have a chance of making friends there. However, now that our kids our older and we are lazier we want to stay in a resort which has daily housekeeping and the feeling of being in a resort rather than a condo complex. We went to Maui 10 years ago and stayed in the Mahana which I loved due to the oceanfront nature of the apartment. We will be a family of five (Kids=10y,3y,4 months).
